mothers day san diego

Show your mom just how much you care by treating her to the best food, natural wonders, and cultural events that San Diego has to offer. Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 8th, a special day to celebrate the joys of motherhood.

Symphony in the Park

Take a leisurely stroll through Balboa Park and stop in at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion for a free outdoor concert at 5 pm featuring a variety of performances by the SDSU School of Music and Dance students. Afterwards, treat your mom to a Champagne Buffett Brunch at the nearby Prado Restaurant. The menu includes pancakes, a chocolate fountain, and a variety of gourmet omelets.

San Diego Natural History Museum

Established in 1874 as the San Diego Society of Natural History, the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park invites visitors to explore the majestic whales in their latest exhibit  “Whales: Giants of the Deep.” The exhibit includes rare specimens from the largest whale skeleton collection in the world and multi media displays featuring these majestic creatures in all their oceanic glory.

Afternoon Tea at The Westgate Hotel

With the melodious and hypnotic sounds of the harp in the background and lavish décor of the Grand Lobby, treat your mom to a delightful afternoon tea, an old-fashioned tradition preserved through the ages at The Westgate Hotel. Featuring a selection of classic English fare such as scones, sandwiches, and pastries, you’ll also be delighted with traditional tea pairings and a glass of champagne for an unforgettable afternoon with a special lady. Friday May 6 and Saturday May 7, 2:30 pm – 5pm, $30-79 per person.

Carlsbad Flower Fields

Take a walk through the spectacular flower fields at Carlsbad Ranch and linger over the vibrant hues of Tecolote Giant Ranunculus, which is considered the finest flower species of its kind in the world. A wagon ride through 50 acres of bright flowers is the perfect way to celebrate the coming of spring and the wonders of nature in full bloom. Take a little piece of Carlsbad country home with you at the Armstrong Garden Center Gift Shop where they offer fresh cut flowers, potted plants, and bulbs for sale.

Kayaking in La Jolla

In honor of mothers who love the outdoors, Hike Bike Kayak Sports La Jolla is offering free kayaking for moms with a family of four kayak rental. Grab your paddle and get ready to explore the Sea Cave and Ecological Reserve of La Jolla, a unique habitat of sea lions, dolphins, harbor seals, and waterfowl. Launching from La Jolla Shores, a guide will lead you through kelp forests and rock formations where you’ll be likely to spot a variety of marine life. After a paddle through the protected wildlife area, the afternoon tour ends with a kayak surf ride back to shore.

Whether your mom loves the countryside, fine dining, or cultural events, San Diego offers a range of delightful itineraries for every mother on her special day.
